G. Kapczyński: 10 years is a very long time, and that’s exactly how long I held this position…

Marcin Sągol

At the request of Mr. Grzegorz Kapczyński, I am publishing a text written by him, which serves both as a summary of his work at the Sports Club “Sęp” in Żelechów and as a message of thanks to the many people with whom Mr. Grzegorz had the opportunity to work.

Witam serdecznie.

Na jesieni ubiegłego Warm greetings.

In the autumn of last year, I made the decision to resign from the position of President of KS “Sęp.” Formally, this took place on January 17 of the current year during the Reporting and Electoral General Assembly. The Management Board and the Audit Committee took a similar stance.

Ten years is a very long time, and that is exactly how long I held this position. Yes, indeed.

My first term was from 1991 to 1994. In 1991, a group of community activists gathered to resolve a question: should we legally dissolve KS “Sęp,” or should we attempt to rebuild it? After all, there was no president, no management board, and the club’s bus was standing in the town square with broken windows. A decision was made to try to survive. We succeeded—after a few years, “Sęp” regained its former glory. It is worth mentioning those activists here: Mr. Bogusław Wojtowicz, Ryszard Cegłowski, Zbigniew Misztal, Czesław Baran, Andrzej Bernacki, Wiesław Rodak, Witold Jaśkiewicz, Sławomir Kowalski, and my humble self (perhaps there were others I no longer remember—after all, 35 years have passed).

The next term began in 2020 and immediately brought a challenge: organizing the celebrations of our club’s 100th anniversary. With the help of the then mayor, Mr. Łukasz Bogusz, we managed to achieve this. We were honored by the presence of the President of the Masovian Football Association, Mr. Sławomir Pietrzyk, a representative of the regional marshal, as well as a large group of “Sęp” members: Ryszard Maszkiewicz, Janusz Białek, Marek Parzyszek, Przemek Rodak, and former third-league players from the 1980s. Altogether, over 100 people attended. There was no shortage of memories. The senior team earned promotion to the District League. At that time, we also managed to improve the training and educational infrastructure. Covered stands with over 200 seats were built. The club building was modernized—windows and entrance doors were replaced, the building was insulated and the façade renovated. Inside, new sanitary facilities, showers, and a referees’ room were created. Everything was repainted. As for purely sporting activity, the club currently operates 7 youth groups plus a senior football team, as well as 5 girls’ volleyball teams. One can only regret that cooperation with the current authorities was poor. To put it briefly: at first it was amusing, later only embarrassing. We also adhered to ethical and moral standards. There was never a case where a member of the club authorities received any remuneration, nor any employee or activist (they had to give something up). I believe that over these 10 years we achieved a great deal. The Sports Club “Sęp” in Żelechów is one of the best-organized clubs in the Siedlce region.

Ten years is a very long time. Therefore, it is worth taking this opportunity to thank those who contributed the most work and effort. I am thinking of the members of the Management Board and the Audit Committee, community activists and supporters who added their share, players of the senior team and youth groups (both volleyball and football), and the coaches. Special thanks are due to Mr. Grzegorz Gardziński (for his overall contribution), the “flying photo-reporter” Mr. Marcin Sągol (for videos, online presence, and his selfless work over so many years), Szymon Słyk (for his overall contribution), Łukasz Beczek (for technical assistance in many matters), and many, many others not mentioned by name. I also extend my thanks to the activists and presidents of neighboring clubs with whom I had the pleasure to work. Thank you very much. And I wish “Sęp” high flights, the maintenance of its organizational standards, and another 100 years.

Yours sincerely,
GRZEGORZ KAPCZYŃSKI
former President of KS “Sęp” Żelechów (1991–1994, 2020–2026).
