Cezary Polak: Everyone on the team has only victories and promotion to the Fortuna I league in mind

Marcin Sągol

We invite you to read a short interview with Czarek Polak, a graduate of Sęp Żelechów, conducted by editor Mateusz Połynka for the weekly Twój Głos. Czarek currently represents the II-league team Kotwica Kołobrzeg and has already played in the first two matches this team has played in the current season, losing 0:1 to Polonia Bytom in the first match and winning 2:0 against Olimpia Elbląg in the second one.

There was sadness in June, followed shortly by joy...

- Exactly. We couldn't maintain our position in the second league with Garbarnia Kraków. Relegation is a tough moment in any footballer's career. It goes on the CV until the end of your journey. After a tough season, I was delighted to see that someone from the outside appreciated my work and decided to work with me. It's even more joyful that I ended up in a team that wants to fight for the highest goals.

You signed a two-year contract...

- That's correct. For the next two seasons, I will be a player for Kotwica. I know this will be a valuable time for me.

And it could have been even better...

- I went on trials to Korona Kielce and Śląsk Wrocław. I had the chance to test myself against the best. I performed well, but personally, I think at this age the most important thing is valuable minutes on the pitch, and as you know, in the Ekstraklasa clubs, I would have fewer opportunities to show my abilities and skills. That's why I decided to gain experience in the second league. I chose sunny Kołobrzeg.

You surely can't be angry that you're at Kotwica...

- Not at all. I'm very happy that I could join here. The training staff with a history in the Ekstraklasa will teach me a lot. In the dressing room, there are experienced and valuable players who also give me valuable information. Kotwica is a club full of professionalism and ready to play at the highest competitive level in Poland.

Where do you live?

- In the city center. I'm very close to the stadium. I've been given a very cozy apartment, importantly, close to the club.

What is the goal?

- Promotion. We don't allow ourselves to think differently. Everyone on the team has only victories and promotion to the Fortuna I league in mind. You were recently in Kraków, now in Kołobrzeg.

Is it a nice place to play football?

- I've traveled through all of Poland, but in Kraków, just like here in Kołobrzeg, the conditions are conducive to sports development. You can meet many fans in the city. It's always nice to say hello and exchange a few words.

The team has several good players, especially Kuba Rzeźniczak...

- We have very good players in every position. The dressing room is really selected from classy players. Many have an interesting past. Jakub Rzeźniczak is also a top-notch player who shows his quality and experience in every aspect on the pitch. In addition, he's a very nice colleague who always helps and suggests what can be done better, what to work on.

What's your goal for the next six months?

- My goal? To play as many minutes on the pitch as possible, get a lot of assists and goals so that I can spend Christmas at the top of the league with Kotwica. That's my wish for the next six months.
