Sęp - Wektra Zbuczyn: 4 goals conceded in the first half and a 3:5 defeat

Marcin Sągol

In the 3rd round match, Sęp Żelechów lost 3:5 to Wektra Zbuczyn on their home ground. The first half ended with a substantial lead for the visitors, 4:1. Despite attempts by Coach Gugała's proteges to make a comeback in the second half, they couldn't manage to secure even a draw.

The match against Wektra was another one this season that didn't go as Sęp had hoped from the very first whistle. As early as the 11th minute, the players from Zbuczyn intercepted the ball on the left wing. After quickly entering the penalty box and passing the ball to Paweł Kelwek positioned seven meters out, he took a shot, giving Patryk Seroczyński no chance of intervening. However, the players from Żelechów responded quickly - just 4 minutes later Kuba Gałkowski took advantage of a one-on-one situation with Damian Krasuski. But the joy of pulling one back was short-lived. In the 18th minute, the visitors conducted a move on the left side of the field. The ball was sent in front of Sęp's goal and Bartek Wdowiak, trying to clear it, unfortunately scored an own goal. The end of the first half saw the dominance of the visitors and defensive errors by Sęp. In the 40th minute, Michał Wereszczyński took a long-range shot. It seemed Seroczyński would save it, but the ball slipped through his hands into the net, making the score 3:1 for Wektra. In the 44th minute, the ball was played to Bartosz Karczmarek positioned on the right side of Sęp's penalty area, who lobbed the advancing Seroczyński, bringing the score to 1:4.

The team from Żelechów tried to reduce the deficit in the second half. In the 64th minute, following a quick counterattack and receiving a pass from Szymon Kowalski, Kuba Gałkowski found himself one-on-one with Krasuski and once again beat the visiting goalkeeper, narrowing the gap to two goals (2:4). Unfortunately, 180 seconds later, the visitors scored another goal, specifically by Michał Wereszczyńki, who shot from a tight angle making it 2:5. The last goal of the match was scored by Michał Licbarski, who took advantage of a scramble in front of the opponent's goal and from close range sent the ball into the net, setting the final score at 3:5.

Regrettably, Wektra's team was the better organized side on Saturday, both defensively and offensively, and was undoubtedly more effective, deserving the win. Had Sęp avoided simple mistakes in defense, perhaps the fate of the match would have turned out differently.
