Sęp - ULKS Gołąbek: a good first half and the lead were not enough, lost 1:3

Marcin Sągol

Unfortunately, our team's streak without a win continues. Looking at the course of the first half of today's match, one could have hoped for the first victory. Sęp was clearly better, creating many more goal opportunities, but once again simple mistakes led to a final loss of 1:3.

Before Sunday's match, there were high expectations for our team to finally break through and achieve their first victory of the season. The first half of the game and the way Sęp played made it seem almost certain that a favorable outcome was within reach.

Sęp attacked from the very first minutes. They played dynamically and created numerous opportunities, from which they managed to get shots on the visitors' goal. Already in the 5th minute, Kuba Gałkowski scored the first goal. He received a vertical pass from the center field from Michał Licbarski, bypassed the defenders, and in a one-on-one situation with Bartosz Pipowski, directed the ball into the net. In the subsequent minutes, Szymon Kowalski, Michał Jaworski, Damian Grzyb, and Michał Licbarski were all shooting at Gołąbek's goal, but their attempts either missed the mark or this time were well-defended by Pipowski. It seemed that more goals for the charges of coach Gugała were only a matter of time. Sadly, as we approached the end of the first half, Sęp was unable to capitalize on their dominance with more goals. To make matters worse, in the 38th minute, Mariusz Olszewski decided to take a seemingly harmless shot from 30 meters out. The ball flew close to the far post and ended up in Patryk Seroczyński's net. Instead of ending with a substantial lead for the Żelechowians, the first half concluded with a 2:2 draw.

In the second half, Sęp didn't play too badly and continued to create goal opportunities, but Pipowski, who guarded Gołąbek's goal, had an outstanding game that day. As the minutes went by, our team started making severe defensive mistakes, which unfortunately seems to be becoming a pattern, judging by the recent matches. In the 67th minute, Damian Grzyb lost the ball on the left side while trying to clear it from under his own goal. Eventually, it ended up with Michał Kruszewski, who sprinted into the penalty area and precisely shot to score the second goal for the visitors. He managed to do this despite the fact that five Sęp players were positioned in the area where the action took place, and none of them could stop the opponent. Just 3 minutes later, the score was 1:3. This time, Bartek Wdowiak made a mistake trying to intercept a pass to the striker from Gołąbek. The ball went to Karol Kruszewski, who lobbed Patryk Seroczyński from 40 meters out, catching him off his line. Towards the end of the match, the visiting team had two more good opportunities to score, but in the first one, Seroczyński confidently intervened, and the second shot was off target.

It's a pity about this match. If Sęp had capitalized on their dominance in the first half with more goals, the result could have been favorable. There's definitely a need to work on the defense since we've been conceding many goals this season, resulting from our defensive errors rather than effective plays by our opponents.
