Hutnik Huta Czechy - Sęp: 1:3 win in the derbies at the start of the spring round

Marcin Sągol

Today's derby match, which marked our team's initiation into the spring round, saw an incredibly varied course of events, ending in a 1:3 away victory over Hutnik Huta Czechy. Following a sluggish first half that ended in a 1:1 draw, the second half featured two missed one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper, a missed penalty kick, a heavy downpour for almost fifteen minutes, and two subsequent goals for Sęp...

The first half of the match did not abound in too many goal-scoring opportunities. Hutnik was slightly more dangerous, managing to get closer to Sęp's penalty area more frequently, but they lacked the effectiveness and luck in finishing their moves.

Nonetheless, the team from Żelechów took the lead in the 20th minute of the game. The action was initiated by Adrian Korgul from his own half, who passed to Szymon Słyk. Słyk then passed the ball to Szymon Kowalski, who was joining in from the right wing, entered the penalty area, and laid the ball off to Sebastian Wdowiak at 13 meters, who shot close to the left post, giving Sęp a one-goal lead. The hosts managed to equalize in the 37th minute when a penalty awarded for a handball in the "box" was converted by Bartek Jeleń. Both teams went to the dressing room with a 1:1 score.

The second half was decidedly more dynamic. Again, the players coached by Robert Kwiatkowski started a bit better, but changes in the Sęp team meant that our players began to create scoring opportunities over time. Unfortunately, the effectiveness was terribly lacking that day.

Albert Stodulski failed to capitalize on two one-on-one situations with the Hutnik goalkeeper and was unable to send the ball to the opponent's goal from a distance of 5 meters. It seemed that the breakthrough would be a penalty in the 66th minute. Kuba Gałkowski stepped up to the ball placed at the penalty spot. He shot close to the right post but too weakly, allowing Oskar Kuszpit to save the shot.

As the minutes passed, the weather conditions worsened due to a strong downpour. Interestingly, Sęp's advantage started to become more apparent despite this. However, we had to wait until the 79th minute for the goal that would give us the lead. It was then that Hubert Król made what seemed like a harmless lob shot from beyond the penalty box. The ball flew just over Kuszpit's hands and slightly under the crossbar into Hutnik's goal, making it 1:2. The score of the match was determined in the 83rd minute. Szymon Kowalski, with a through pass from his own half, sent Szymon Kryczka racing from the center of the field, who reached the penalty area and with a precise shot close to the right post, scored the third goal for Sęp.

After a sluggish first half and many missed opportunities, we managed to win on Hutnik's difficult terrain 1:3. Let's hope that the next league matches will be somewhat better, though there's no complaining about today's win.
