Sęp - Fenix Siennica: Gendek sent off, two deadly counterattacks, and goals from Głodek and Piórczyński secure a 2-0 win

Marcin Sągol

Our players delivered plenty of excitement today in the penultimate match of the autumn round, hosting Fenix Siennica on home turf. From the 31st minute, Sęp had to play with ten men after Łukasz Gendek was shown a red card. The visitors created several excellent chances but were unable to beat the outstanding Mateusz Bryl. Our team, meanwhile, struck twice on the counterattack — with goals from Mikołaj Głodek and Wojciech Piórczyński sealing a valuable 2-0 victory!

The match started well for Sęp, as we managed to go toe-to-toe with Fenix in the opening stages. We created dangerous chances near the opponent’s goal and defended effectively. One of the key moments came in the 31st minute, when Łukasz Gendek, attempting to control a clearance from our penalty area, caught an opponent’s leg in an unfortunate challenge and was sent off. Reduced to ten men, our team dropped deeper in defense and focused mainly on counterattacks. The first half ended goalless, with both sides heading to the break at 0-0.

After the restart, Fenix took control of the game and pushed hard for a goal. The visitors had several great scoring opportunities, but each time they were denied by the brilliant goalkeeping of Mateusz Bryl, who made a series of excellent saves throughout the match to keep us in the game.

Playing a man down, Sęp relied on counterattacks — and two of them proved deadly. In the 68th minute, Michał Licbarski started the move by passing to Mikołaj Głodek. He quickly played the ball to Szymon Kryczka on the left wing, who then sent it back to Głodek breaking behind the defense. Mikołaj kept his composure in a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper Mateusz Nowakowski and finished calmly into the far corner to make it 1-0.

The second goal came late in the match. The action began deep in our half — goalkeeper Mateusz Bryl passed to right-back Adrian Korgul, who played it down the flank to Hubert Król. Hubert delivered a cross-field ball to the opposite wing, where Wojciech Piórczyński sprinted in from his own half, completely losing the Fenix defense. He reached the ball and struck it precisely into the far corner to seal a 2-0 win! Referee Marcin Protasewicz added five minutes of stoppage time, but the scoreline remained unchanged.

Our team delivered a very strong performance today, showing character and determination despite playing most of the match with one man less. Hopefully, we’ll see more games like this from our players! We also want to thank our supporters for their fantastic backing and energy throughout the match.
