Sęp – Zryw Sobolew: 10 Goals in a Crazy Match and a Penalty Shootout, Sęp Advance to the 4th Round

Marcin Sągol

Today’s 3rd Round clash of the District Polish Cup “Siedlce,” in which our team faced Zryw Sobolew, had an extraordinary – even chaotic – course. The first half went our way, and we went into the break leading 2–1. However, we started the second half disastrously. First, Krystian Dadas received a red card, and shortly after we conceded. By the 88th minute we were trailing 3–5, only to claw back to a draw and secure advancement to the next round after a dramatic penalty shootout, which also had its share of surprises…

The first half, though it produced three goals, was not nearly as thrilling as the second. The scoring was opened in the 31st minute by Bartosz Głowala, who slotted home after Dominik Kowalski had saved a dangerous shot moments earlier. Just seven minutes later it was 1–1, as Adrian Korgul latched onto a perfect through ball from Hubert Król. Right before the halftime whistle, Szymon Kowalski restored our lead.

The real drama began after the break. In the 47th minute, Krystian Dadas picked up his second yellow card and was sent off. From the resulting free kick, Sebastian Magnuszewski equalized for Zryw at 2–2. Soon after, the game turned into a rapid exchange of blows. In the 53rd minute, Damian Kulik put the visitors ahead, but just four minutes later Łukasz Gendek leveled things again.

Playing a man down, Sęp made several defensive errors, which resulted in conceding two more goals to Mateusz Kiliszek. Zryw could have scored even more but wasted clear chances, including one-on-one situations against Mateusz Bryl. In the 90th minute, Mikołaj Głodek was fouled inside the box. The awarded penalty was calmly converted by Hubert Król, reducing the deficit to 4–5. In the third minute of stoppage time, Głodek broke free on goal but was brought down by Patryk Białecki, who was shown a red card. From the resulting free kick, Hubert Król stepped up and… scored to make it 5–5!

The tie was decided by a penalty shootout, where our players held their nerve to win 5–4. It’s worth noting that both goalkeepers managed to save two penalties each.
