Relegations and Promotions: Who Left the District League and Who Will Compete in the 2024/25 Season

Marcin Sągol

The issues of relegations and promotions in our league were practically resolved in the last round of the recently concluded 2023/24 football season. The battle for direct promotion to the higher division had long been contested by just two teams, Pogoń II Siedlce and Wektra Zbuczyn. Regarding relegations to the A-Class, several teams were at risk halfway through the spring round.

Promotions

From the beginning, the reserve team of Pogoń Siedlce was the favorite for promotion. Coach Damian Guzka's team occupied the first place in the table for most of the season, and nothing indicated that anyone would be able to change this situation. After the autumn round, three teams were mainly competing for the championship: Pogoń II Siedlce, Fenix Siennica, and Wektra Zbuczyn. However, a weak second half of the season for the Siennica team meant that ultimately, the fight for direct promotion at the end of the season was between Pogoń and Wektra. Both teams ended up with 77 points, but a better goal difference determined that Pogoń won the league championship.

Wektra Zbuczyn's fate was to be decided in the playoffs, where they faced the Delta Słupno team from the Płock District League. Delta finished second in their league with 49 points. It is also worth noting that the Płock "okręgówka" consisted of only 12 teams.

In the first match (June 26, 2024), Wektra secured a substantial goal advantage by defeating Delta 4-1. The match's scoring was opened by Jakub Bobryk in the 40th minute, and just before the break, an own goal by Adam Pokorski made it 2-0. In the second half, Michał Wereszczyński and Damian Prokurat scored in the 55th and 71st minutes, respectively. The visitors scored an honorary goal at the very end of the match, with Kuba Fabianowicz on the scoresheet.

A report on Wektra's first playoff match was conducted by the sportsiedlce.pl portal, and both the full match transmission and its highlights can be found on their YouTube channel.

The second playoff match was played on Saturday, June 29, with Delta hosting this time. It seemed that Wektra's solid advantage from the first match would suffice to secure their promotion to the V League in the rematch. However, the game did not go as planned for coach Sylwester Jagiełłka's team.

This time, Delta took the lead very quickly. In the 6th minute, Krzysztof Machowski scored to make it 1-0, and this score remained until the end of the first half. The hosts started the second half better again, increasing their lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute with Adam Zaborowski on the scoresheet. At this point, the aggregate score was 4-3, still favorable for Wektra. Unfortunately, in the 53rd minute, Damian Szczytniewski scored Delta's third goal, and Wektra's situation became very difficult—they needed to score. They failed to achieve this goal. Finally, in the 80th minute, Mateusz Dybiec set the score at 4-0, ensuring the Płock district team secured promotion to the higher district league, while Wektra will spend the next season in the "okręgówka" again.

Relegations

The weakest team of the past season in our league was Kolektyw Oleśnica, which had to accept relegation to a lower league several rounds before the end of the season. In 30 matches, Oleśnica managed to win only twice, record three draws, and suffer 25 defeats. These results left them in the last, 16th place in the table with 9 points.

In positions 13-15, which also mean relegation, were Jabłonianka Jabłonna Lacka, Promnik Gończyce, and Czarni Węgrów. Promnik, after their first historic season in the district league, unfortunately, had to accept that they would not stay in this league and would spend the next season back in the A-Class. For our team, this means that in the 2024/25 season, we will play one less derby match.

The survival of Jastrząb Żeliszew in the district league depended on whether Wektra Zbuczyn would secure promotion to the V League in the playoffs. As we know, Wektra lost to Delta Słupno in the two-legged tie, which means that Jastrząb also relegates to the A-Class.

Composition of the District League for the 2024/25 Season

We already know who left our league due to promotions and relegations, so now let's look at the new teams that will compete with us in the Siedlce "okręgówka" next season. Among the 16 teams will be four relegated from the V League: Mazovia II Mińsk Mazowiecki, Naprzód Skórzec, Płomień Dębe Wielkie, and Watra Mrozy. We will also have two newcomers: Pogoń III Siedlce (eligible to play in the district league thanks to Pogoń II Siedlce's promotion to the V League) and Grodzisk Krzymosze.

The full lineup of the Siedlce District League for the 2024/25 season is as follows:

  • Fenix Siennica
  • Grodzisk Krzymosze
  • Hutnik Huta Czechy
  • ŁDK Łosice
  • Mazovia II Mińsk Mazowiecki
  • MKS Małkinia
  • Naprzód Skórzec
  • Orzeł Unin
  • Podlasie II Sokołów Podlaski
  • Pogoń III Siedlce
  • Płomień Dębe Wielki
  • Sęp Żelechów
  • ULKS Gołąbek
  • Watra Mrozy
  • Wektra Zbuczyn
  • Zryw Sobolew

Considering the teams that will compete in our league next season (especially those relegated from the V League), it can be assumed that the entire league will be stronger than it was last year, making the competition for points even tougher. Nevertheless, we eagerly await the start of the 2024/25 football season!
