Lost Doubleheader Against Iskra Warszawa in the II Provincial Cadet League 2024/25

We played the first match on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Warsaw. After a very strong, almost flawless performance by our players (as highlighted by coach Bogusz), we confidently won the first two sets (20:25, 22:25) and were on the best path to closing the match in three sets. Everything seemed to be going as planned, as in the third set, our team quickly gained a 21:9 lead – just four points away from victory. Unfortunately, from that point on, our play began to falter, allowing the opponents not only to recover but, even worse, to win the set 25:22.

The fourth set again belonged to the more effective Warsaw team, who triumphed 25:20, leveling the match at 2:2. The tie-break would then decide the match. Sadly, Iskra proved stronger again, winning 15:10 and taking the match 3:2.

The chance for a rematch came today. At 10:00 AM in the sports hall of Primary School No. 2 in Garwolin, our volleyball players took to the court for the second match against Iskra.

The start of the first set wasn’t ideal – we trailed 1:4, but the girls quickly caught up, engaging in an even battle with their opponents (4:4, 7:7, 13:13). At one point, we allowed Iskra to build a four-point lead (14:18), which we unfortunately couldn’t overcome. The first set ended in an 18:25 loss.

The second set also started better for the Warsaw team, who led 3:0. However, our players quickly recovered the deficit (thanks in part to three strong serves by Maja Gajownik) and took the lead 12:8. The opponents reduced the lead to just one point, but then Kinga Włodarczyk took over serving duties, helping our team regain control and extend the lead to 15:11. In the latter part of the set, coach Łukasz Bogusz’s team continued to increase their advantage (17:12, 22:13), ultimately winning 25:15.

In the third set, we managed to keep up with Iskra only until the midway point. At 10:13, there was still hope for a comeback, but the Warsaw players capitalized on our mistakes, building their lead (14:20) and winning the set 25:16.

The fourth set was to decide whether the match would go to a tie-break. We started uncertainly (1:3), but quickly improved, taking an 8:5 lead and later extending it to 11:8. Julia Krzyśpiak’s serves caused problems for the opponents, allowing us to secure three more points (14:8). Our players continued to perform well, leading 22:16 and needing just three points to force a tie-break. Unfortunately, just like the previous day, our play began to unravel. The Warsaw team first cut the deficit to 22:21, then tied it at 23:23, and finally scored the next two points to win the set 25:23 and the match 3:1.

These two matches certainly leave a sense of disappointment. Our players have shown they can play extremely effectively, not only competing with but also defeating the league’s top teams, and their performances have delighted the fans. Although we didn’t manage to overcome Iskra Warszawa and advance to the next stage of the competition, we can be proud of the team’s effort and how they have performed throughout the season. Two away matches remain to be played – first against Ósemka Siedlce, followed by KKS Kozienice.
